Longstanding Pelorus Trust Manager Steps Aside

Founding Trustee and longstanding Trust Manager, Alister Skene, will step down as Trust Manager at the end of September 2011. It will mark the end of twelve years as the head of the highly respected gaming operator and community funder. Tania Skene who also works for Pelorus is finishing with the Trust at the same time.

“We are extremely saddened to lose quality managers such as Alister and Tania, but respect their decision to pursue other business interests. As a Trust we owe a huge amount to them and we would like to acknowledge their contribution in making Pelorus not only a leading gaming operator but such a valued community sponsor and advocate” commented Trust Chairman, Bryan Yeoman.

“We are grateful Alister will continue to support and advise the Trust from the sidelines and assist new Chief Executive, Mo Imrie , whenever needed as we transition”.

“Mo is an experienced gaming operator having been with Pelorus for over ten years. She is well known and respected by Pelorus venue operators and is backed by an excellent, experienced team”.

Alister Responds…

“I am proud that we have helped raise and distribute nearly $50m into New Zealand communities over the last decade. We have contributed as a funder to some amazing Kiwi sporting success, supported and nurtured grassroots sport and recreation, built stronger communities through partnering with welfare groups, schools and health providers, and made our country more vibrant through supporting arts and cultural performances.”

“We have raised the benchmark for community collaboration and partnership with the likes of the Pelorus Sportshouse development which has been an outstanding success. I would particularly like to acknowledge the conviction and vision that the Board exhibited in supporting our initiative to build this home for regional and national sports bodies in Lower Hutt .”

“The Trust is in a very strong position and, as other operators fall by the wayside, I am confident Pelorus will continue to prosper for the next decade, and maintain the excellent reputation it enjoys with all stakeholders.”

“Thank you for the opportunity.”

About Pelorus Trust

The Pelorus Trust is a charitable trust based in Wellington which raises funds for charitable, philanthropic and sporting purposes through the operation of gaming machines. We are a mid-sized gaming trust operating machines from hotels and taverns between Kaitaia and Nelson/Marlborough.

The Trust maintains an open and equitable funding regime that enables non-profit organisations such as sports clubs, cultural groups, and community-based societies or trusts to apply for funds through a transparent and efficient application process.

How to Apply

If you are from a group that is considering applying, this website should provide you with all the information you need to know about making an application. In particular, please read the funding criteria information contained in the Applications section of the website prior to completing an application form. There are rules around how we fund and some things that we do not fund (such as salaries) so it is really important that you read the information before applying.

When to Apply

We will accept an application at any time, however applications must be received 2 working days prior to the Trust meetings to be considered at that particular meeting. Meetings are generally held twice each month. Upcoming closing dates are posted on the left-side bar of the website. Applications must be received by 4pm on the closing date , at the Trust office. If you miss the cut off, your application will automatically be included in the next funding round – however as the Trustees cannot consider retrospective applications (ie, claims for expenditure that have already been paid or if the event has happened before the next Trust meeting), please ensure that you submit your application well in advance of when you require the funds. We will accept applications up to three months prior to the event. Please note that that all quotes for goods and services need to be current and dated within a three month period.

How to seek Help

Please do not hesitate to contact the Trust office if you have any queries regarding the application process. You can access our contact details on the home page toolbar under contact us. Written notification is issued within 48 hours of the Trustees decisions being made. Please refrain from ringing the Trust office for the status of your application after the funding meeting as this slows the notification process to all applicants. Your co-operation is appreciated by our hard working staff!
